Writing to Understand:
Online writing group for therapy clients
Wednesday mornings, 8 - 9 am EST
December 2, 9, 16, 23, 30
$150
“Writing is not life, but I think that sometimes it can be a way back to life.”
Working with a therapist can help people explore their experiences and their inner lives, and often provokes further questions. Journaling and expressive writing can help guide, investigate further, or make sense of what clients are discovering in therapy.
In this December Wednesday morning group, we will gather in order to support your therapy process. I am both a writer and a therapist, and have led writing groups that make use of creativity on the page as a way to process feelings and connect with others. This group is a writing group, not a therapy group; it is intended for those who are interested in writing to support their personal therapy process.
These hour-long sessions will consist of writing together in response to prompts, and brief reflections among the members.
The writing you do in this group is to help you consolidate gains in your therapy, or point to new directions to explore. You would be free to share the writing with your therapist, or simply use it as a means to continue your growth and healing.
Prerequisites: No writing experience necessary. All participants will be currently engaged in therapy, and will have an initial conversation with me to set their intentions for the course, and to make sure this group is a good fit.
What will the group feel like?
These are hour-long Wednesday morning sessions (8 - 9am) for the month of December. I’ll ask you to bring a notebook and a pen. I’ll ask participants to be on-screen for the duration of our meetings, but your writing will remain your own unless you volunteer to share within the group. I will ask people to check in on the chat if they’re up for it, and then give a brief writing prompt to start us off. There will be one longer prompt per meeting. I will invite two participants to share at each meeting, but that is entirely voluntary. We’ll then close by briefly reflecting on the hour.
